One-Semester Course Scope and Prerequisites
This college statistics OER textbook supports a one-semester introductory course for students majoring in fields other than math or engineering. Some knowledge of intermediate algebra is assumed, and the emphasis remains on practical statistical applications rather than theory.
Course coverage progresses from sampling and data, descriptive statistics, and probability to random variables, the normal distribution, and the central limit theorem. It then develops confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, the chi-square distribution, linear regression and correlation, and one-way ANOVA.
